The PGA Tour is in Palm Beach Gardens this week, about 25 minutes from the Bat Cave, or perhaps we should call it “Stately Woods Manor” — the Jupiter Island hideaway of one Eldrick Woods.
So naturally when you’re in Tiger’s “territory” the natural tendency would be to wonder how Tiger is progressing with his “rehabilitation?”
One of the best ways to spread a rumor quickly is via Twitter. The Twitter-sphere, like the local sewers, if often full of crap. Sometimes it is, and once in a while you get some good info. But it is like the sewer system, you have to wade through a lot of crap to find something good that may have been accidentally flushed down the toilet.
So a guy out in Los Angeles named Robert Lusetich came out with this tweet:
“I’m told Tiger Woods condition worsened. He can’t move well; painful to sit. Sits in car with seat fully reclined. No foreseeable return. Sad.”
Okay, so here’s a guy on the other side of the country claiming he’s been “told” something. Okay, by who?
It didn’t take long for Tiger’s guard-dog — Mark Steinberg — to pounce on the tweet.
“The tweets that appeared this weekend about Tiger’s health are ridiculous and absolutely false. It’s reprehensible that every few months someone makes something up and it’s treated like a real story. Tiger continues to work on his rehabilitation and we will have an accurate update at the appropriate time.”
Okay, thanks Stiney, we hear ‘ya.
The easiest way for Steinbert and his boss, Eldrick, to squash all this is to give an interview and update the world on how the 14-time major champion is doing. After all, the last we heard from Woods was at the Hero Challenge when he told us there was “no timetable” for his recovery.
Tim Rosaforte from The Golf Channel lives in Jupiter and hasn’t heard anything and Rosey has better sources than anyone when it comes to golf.
What Rosaforte did say on the Golf Channel on Monday is that Notah Begay is Tiger’s “advisor” when it comes to all things back-related, recovery, etc.
That’s comforting, isn’t it?
There’s no easy way to find out the truth about Woods. He has been the best at hiding the truth. He could teach the CIA how to keep secrets.
Maybe he’ll host some of the guys like Rickie and Rory at his Jupiter restaurant this week. That could give us a hint.
Then again, maybe he won’t.
