Tony Finau made his break-through last year at the Puerto Rico Open.
He’s been on the rise, his stock steadily increasing, his talent on display as he moves up in the ranks on the PGA Tour.
Finau opened with a four-under par 67 Thursday at the Valspar and if things keep going well, he just might play his way into next week’s WGC Match Play.
Finau has been nibbling at the top 60 and with some big names skipping next week’s WGC event in Austin, Finau might have a good shot if he continues to play the way he did on day one at Innisbrook.
He’s in a good position either way.
He can go back and defend his title at a nice spot but every player out there wants to be in those lucrative WGC events. You walk away with at least $50,000 in earnings not to mention the FedEx Cup points.
