The folks at the Greenbrier were pretty amazed Thursday when 53-year-old Davis Love III shot 63.
Love, who is more likely to be a factor on the Champions Tour, took the early lead, stiff back, stiff hip, no problem.
It was amazing until after the dinner hour when most spectators had headed to happy hour. It was around seven in the evening when Sebastian Munoz turned in his scorecard with a 61 on it.
Yes, 61 and everyone at the Greenbrier Classic wondering: who is Sebastian Munoz?
Munoz is a rookie on the PGA Tour, part of last season’s Web.com Tour class. He is the only player on the tour from Columbia, began on the Latino America tour.
He got off to a hot start with five front nine birdies, including a run of four straight starting at two. Another at the 10th and he had the 59 watch in effect. A bogey at the 13th didn’t cool him off as he bounced back with four straight birdies to post his career round. Munoz also came up with the understatement of the day as well: “Things kind of clicked,” he said afterward. “It was a good surprise!”
Munoz upstaged Love, the two-time Ryder Cup captain who won at age 51 and has himself two behind the leader heading into Friday’s round two.
The 24-year-old Columbian overshadowed the big names as well — Phil Mickelson (67), Bubba Watson (69) and Patrick Reed (66).

Correction: Sebastian is not the only player from “Colombia” in the tour. Camilo Villegas who is also playing the Greenbrier is from Colombia too, who by the way is a 4 time PGA winner.

Right you are Manny! I haven’t seen Camilo is so long that he totally slipped my mind. Thanks for reminding us!
