Miram Lee got everyone’s attention when she shot a record-tying 64 in the first round of the U.S. Open earlier this month.
She once again made the women take notice when she burned the Woburn Golf Club on Thursday with a record-tying 10-under par 62.
She is easily the first round leader at the Women’s British Open, three clear of Ariya Jutanugarn who had an amazing day until Lee got in later in the day.
“It was probably one of my best ever rounds although I still had some errant shots,” Lee said after her 10-birdie effort.
Jutanugarn was the leader after the morning half of the draw. She shot a seven-under par 65 and admitted: “Seven birdies is pretty good.” Even better when you consider she doesn’t carry a driver in her bag. She hits her three-metal as far as most of the women can hit driver, probably farther.
It was a good-news bad-news scenario for American Stacy Lewis. Lewis put together a five-under par 67, her best round in a major this season but the bad news is that she is five behind the leader.
Lee got off to a fast start with that 64 at the U.S. Open but eventually fell back and finished in a tie for 11th.
World’s No. 1 Lydia Ko had a struggle, she shot 74 and is 12 shots out of the lead.
