The revolving door at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings will not revolve this week.
That means Brooks Koepka, winner of TWO major championships in 2018 will end the calendar year as the world’s No. 1 player.
It’s been a back-and-forth farce lately with Justin Rose trying to get his nose through the door but basically J-Ro did a big face-flop on Sunday at the Indonesian Masters.
J-Ro simply had to finish in the top 5 in a field comprised mostly of players with names you cannot pronounce. Poom Saksansin won the shootout at 20-under par. Runnerup was Jazz Janewattananond (say that 10 times really fast). Panuphol Pittayart was third and the fifth spot that Rose needed belonged to Thitiphun Chuayprakong. If you want a name you can pronounce easily, take solace that Henrik Stenson took fourth place.
A closing 75 by Rose, who has shown he can be a choke-artist at times, doomed him to a tie for 17th at six-under par.
So it’s Brooks Koepka No. 1 as we prepare for a New Year and a 2018 golf season.
