This was going to be a week off for Wyndham Clark and the other PGA Tour players who weren’t ranked high enough to make it into the elite field at The Players.
Clark was introduced to the golfing world after he played well enough to hold the 54-hole lead at the Honda Classic two weeks ago. He was seven under going into the final 18, shot two-over and eventually tied for seventh.
It was a huge break for Clark and a bad break for tour veteran Pat Perez when Perez found out he had blown out his Achilles tendon on Monday. Perez was out, Wyndham was the first alternate.
It was bad news for Perez, he’s out of action indefinitely. It’s an injury that takes time and Perez gave no indication if he’d have to undergo surgery to repair the tear.
As for Wyndham, it’s a huge opportunity. This will be his first appearance at TPC Sawgrass.
