There was one player at The Players on Sunday who looked pretty clueless.
That would be Jon Rahm.
Rahm is a world class player but certainly didn’t look like one after his Saturday 64, he turned in a 76 on Sunday that was uglier than the final round weather at the TPC Sawgrass.
Rahm hit just five fairways on a wild driving spree but it was his decision making that earned him a spot in the Dog House.
The highlight of his bad decisions came at the par five 11th where he was in the left woods (of course) and a layup seemed the sane thing to do.
But Rahm, struck by insanity, was telling his caddie he’d try and hit a huge hook in attempt to get his golf ball on the green. His caddie calmly made the case for a simple layup, Rahm could still have a great chance at birdie, he was still in the hunt despite shooting one-over on the front nine after making bogeys on three of his first four holes. Can anyone say nerves?
But no, Rahm didn’t listen to his caddie and promptly tried the stupid shot and faster than you can say “Caramba!” that ball was on its way to the bottom of the lake to the right of the green.
Purely stupid stuff.
Rahm sure needs some seasoning and it was evident on Sunday that his thinking process on the golf course can leave a lot to be desired. So Jon Rahm makes his first trip to the Dog House where it’s nice and dry and the dogs will probably tell him to lay up next time instead of trying an incredibly stupid shot!
