Oh that trouble-maker Brandel Chamblee.
The Goof Of The Golf Channel is at it again.
It’s perhaps easier to list who Chamblee hasn’t taken a shot at on the air but he’s been gnawing a lot lately at Brooks Koepka.
First, he was all over Koepka for losing weight to do a Sports Illustrated body issue shoot. Koepka then went out and nearly won The Masters, losing to Tiger Woods by a shot thanks to that water-ball tee shot at the 12th.
Chamblee’s latest is that he’s totally on board with Tiger, no dissing there, and basically said last week that there are only two players who can challenge Woods as far as being best in the world:
“In the aggregate, you’d have Dustin and Rory who are the likely two who could hang with him,” he said. “Jon Rahm’s still got a lot to learn. His iron play’s not as sharp as it needs to be to be the best player in the world, and it forces him to have to pitch the ball…his pitching, generally speaking, is not as good as it needs to be. And Spieth’s game has fallen off. So it’s really only two players who could challenge him.
“Irrespective of the world rankings, I think all of us know what we need to know without the world rankings telling us, and it’s Rory and it’s Dustin Johnson and it’s Tiger Woods, but Tiger’s simply not going to play enough to get the points that he needs to get.”
So said Chamblee in a conversation with the well-versed Jaime Diaz.
Rory and D.J.?
No mention of world’s No. 3, Koepka, who won two majors last year, was right there down the stretch at The Masters and figures to be in the hunt next week at Bethpage for the PGA Championship, where he is defending champion.
Koepka is warming up for the PGA this week in Dallas at the Byron Nelson, which is at Trinity Forest for the second year. He’s the biggest name and highest-ranked player in the field.
