When you haven’t had a sniff of the winner’s circle in more than two years, you take them any way you can get them.
That was the case for Jason Dufner Saturday when he and teammate Brandt Snedeker caught on fire and closed with a final round best-ball of 61 to win the Franklin Templeton Shootout.
“We’re a great partnership,” said Snedeker after he rolled in a 20-footer for birdie at the final hole to punctuate a two-shot victory over Matt Kuchar and Harris English. Sneds and Duf shot 30-under par for 54-holes at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples.
“It’s easy when your his (Snedeker’s) partner,” said Dufner, who had fallen off the face of the earth after his game went sour and he was over-run with personal problems including a divorce.
Their 61 was the low round of the best-ball format and Snedeker credited his work this season with Butch Harmon. “Butch and I have done a lot of work at home and on the road.”
Kuchar and English won this event two years ago and finished second last year. Their 63 left them two short of a second win.
Overnight leaders Charley Hoffman and Daniel Berger shot 64 and finished 27-under, alone in third.
