There’s no surprise as far as this goes, no drum roll, no suspense.
Rory McIlroy has been named the European Tour’s Golfer of the Year for 2015.
Despite missing his defense of the Open Championship thanks to an ankle injury and a rusty return to the PGA Championship, McIlroy closed his season by winning the Race To Dubai and the European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
It wasn’t even close when you consider his competition was guys like Justin Rose and Danny Willett.
McIlroy won three times on the European Tour.
He has won the title now in consecutive years and won for the first time in 2012.
“It’s always special, no matter how often, to be recognized this way,” McIlroy said.
