Last week Jordan Spieth found himself beaten by an amateur.
This week, it could be Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy didn’t do himself any favors Saturday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as three double-bogeys doomed him to another 75 and left him at one-over par through 54 holes.
The world’s No. 2 finds himself looking up at a pair of amateurs on the leaderboard.
One is Stanford golfer Maverick McNealy, who is in at two-under after a round of 74. McNealy’s day was good when you take into consideration that he hit two balls in the water at the par five sixth and still managed a double-bogey by chipping in from the back fringe. He was four-under after 36 thanks to rounds of 69-71.
U.S. Amateur champion Bryson DeChambeau has been nothing but steady after three straight rounds of 72.
McNealy is a senior at Stanford and has toyed with the idea of not turning professional.
DeChambeau will remove the “A” from beside his name right after The Masters in April.
