Jordan Spieth is No. 1 no longer.
Jason Day and Spieth combined to make that happen on Saturday at the WGC Match Play.
First, Spieth bowed out in the round of 16 when he got hammered 4&2 by Louie Oosthuizen.
Day did his job with two victories. He bounced Brandt Snedeker in the morning, 3&2 then beat Brooks Koepka in the battle of the bombers by an identical 3&2 score.
“It’s not so much about N0. 1. It’s more about the journey and the process,” Day said after his win in the afternoon quarter-finals. “I have been busting my butt and doing the right things.”
Day will return to the top spot when this week’s world rankings are re-shuffled.
Day will face Rory McIlroy Easter Sunday morning in their semi-final match.
