Tony Finau has been known best as the longest hitter on the PGA Tour.
Now he has another point of recognition — PGA Tour winner.
Finau picked up his first title Sunday in a playoff win over nine-year veteran Steve Marino.
Ian Poulter was the 54-hole leader at 11-under par but could only manage to shoot even par on Sunday and tied for third with Rodolfo Cazaubon.
Finau and Marino both closed with two-under par 70s at the Coco Beach Golf and Country Club. They finished tied at 12-under and went to a playoff, going back to the par five 18th, advantage Finau.
Both players birdied the hole the first two times around. On the third trip down 18, Marino could do no better than par and a third-straight playoff birdie earned Finau the victory.
The victory is the icing on a season that has seen a lot of early success for Finau. Unfortunately, the only thing the win didn’t do was get Finau a berth in the Masters.
