The guys at the top of the Wells Fargo leaderboard aren’t about to scare anybody.
That would be leader Andrew Loupe at eight-under, Robert Castro a shot back with Chesson Hadley and Mark Hubbard in at six-under.
People don’t show up on any given day to watch those guys.
The buzz at Quail Hollow is that both Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler are in position to make big move over the weekend.
Mickelson has been steady the first 36 with rounds of 69-70 while Fowler’s Friday 68 got him to five-under.
“I played pretty well. It was a battle. Scores were out there but it wasn’t easy,” Fowler said of the wet, difficult Quail Hollow layout that had some steady winds making the scoring a challenge.
Justin Rose was in at four under while defending champion Rory McIlroy fought back after a disappointing first round with 69 on Friday and is at two-under.
The cut came at one-over par.
Jim Furyk, in his first tournament back after rehabbing from wrist surgery, finished four-over. Rookie Bryson DeChambeau went home after shooting 75-72.
