This isn’t much of a secret and of course Tiger Woods LOVES secrets.
But not this one, no secret, it’s out there, the cat or should we say The Tiger is out of the bag.
Tiger Woods is Jason Day’s text buddy, his cell phone mentor, his official, unofficial life advisor.
Whew.
“JD and I talk quite a bit either via text or telephone call. Some of it’s advice. Most of it is just giving each other crap. We love to needle each other a lot. That’s the fun part of our relationship,” Woods told anyone willing to listen Monday at Congressional.
Ah, there’s a “relationship” and that’s huge, Woods rarely admits to any sort of “relationship.”
Tiger’s most famous advice so far to Day has been the text message: “Stay in your world.” That means simply keeping your focus during rounds, especially at a huge event when you are in the lead.
Day started out by getting a tidbit from Woods, here and there. Now there is, as even Woods admits, a relationship.
“Tiger says he’s going to kick my butt when he comes back,” Day revealed. “So I’m going to try and extend that gap (No. 1 over No. 2) so if he does come back and turns into Tiger Woods again — I’ve got to kind of watch my behind.”
It would be fun to ask Day about that “if he does come back and turns into Tiger Woods again.”
Right now, no one knows if and when Woods does come back and the highly unlikely scenario that he will ever be “that guy” again.
