Bubba Watson said the course played a little tougher on Friday and his score showed it.
Watson managed three birdies on his way to a second round 67 that was five shots higher than his opening round but he still kept his two shot advantage after 36 holes at the Travelers Championship.
“The wind blew from a different direction and it was tougher today,” said Watson, who played early and posted his 11-under par total.
“I’m thinking well, staying in the moment,” Watson said, describing what he said is the best part of his game this week. Add the fact that he’s been driving the ball so far that he has wedges to most of the par fours. And add in the greens, which Watson described as “perfect.”
He had a two shot advantage on Thursday and still does. Lefty Brian Harman was in at nine-under along with Brian Stuard, who had it to 10-under with two to go but bogeyed the 17th and holed an 18-footer for par at 18.
Carl Pettersson is with them. Pettersson faces a traumatic situation in six-months when he can no longer putt with his long putter, one he says he needs to be competitive.
Chris Stroud, Jason Gore and Scott Brown were three back at eight under.
