Only on the Champions Tour can a journeyman transform himself into a contender.
Such is the case with Brandt Jobe, who somehow finds himself atop the leader board at the Senior Players Championship. A second straight 69 put him at two-under through 36 holes at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
But it’s not about Jobe, it’s about who is one shot back of him and that would be none other than the superstar of the senior set — Bernhard Langer. After a 71 on Thursday, Langer put himself up as the man to beat this weekend. He’s been the dominant player among the geriatric gents and even though Scott Dunlap is tied with him, it’s all about Langer.
Overnight leader Jay Don Blake came up with a 72 and fell back to even par after two rounds.
Another player who could make a weekend move is Woody Austin, who won twice in three weeks earlier this season.
Vijay Singh got off to a good start with a 69 but his 74 on Friday left him three-over par.
John Daly is no factor. A second straight round of 76 left him tied for 74th.
