He loves good wine and fine cigars.
He has a garage full of Ferraris.
He is golf’s most interesting man.
He is Miguel Angel Jimenez and he seized the lead at the Senior Open Championship Saturday.
Jimenez put together a perfect day, bogey-free with seven birdies on his card and the best round of the championship, a dazzling 65.
It was good enough to give him a four-shot lead over four challengers going into Sunday’s finale at historic Carnoustie.
“I played very solid from tee to green. Everything was working perfectly today,” Jimenez said.
Three Americans and a Brit will start four back. Overnight leader Joe Durant shot even par 72, Tom Byrum a 71 and Wes Short Jr. 69. Paul Broadhurst from England’s 68 put him in position to make a run at Jimenez.
“It would mean a lot if I win in Scotland, the home of golf,” Jimenez said as he thought about his first major championship possibilities. “It would be amazing. Tomorrow we will see.”
