Ariya Jutanugarn may already have one claim to fame: Best Player In The World Without A Driver In Her Bag.
On Sunday, she will try for another: Major Champion.
Jutanugarn fashioned a tidy round Saturday at the Women’s British Open when she went around the Woburn Golf Club without a bogey and put six birdies on her scorecard. Her 66 got her to an amazing 16-under par and she’ll go into Sunday’s final round with a two-shot lead over Mirim Lee.
Lee shot 69 as did American Mo Martin, who will start the day five back at 11-under.
Catriona Matthew is making a bid to become the oldest woman to win a major. She will soon turn 47 and she played with Jutanugarn on Saturday and couldn’t keep up with the 20-year-old. Matthew turned in a 71.
American Stacy Lewis was in a nine-under par (70) while Lexi Thompson’s 69 got her to eight-under.
Jutanugarn has had no problem with 54-hole leads this season. She was the third-round leader in all three of her victories and a win on Sunday will put her at four wins on the year to tie No. 1 Lydia Ko.
