The leaders at the 2016 PGA Championship never saw the first tee on Saturday.
It was that kind of a day at Baltusrol when strong bands of rain came rolling into the northern New Jersey landscape and put an end to play around 2:30 p.m. Until that point, there had been some pretty good scores to be had. Kevin Kisner and Paddy Harrington shot 65s, Justin Rose and Charl Schwartzel turned in 66s.
Just before 2 p.m. there was a weather warning posted but the skies grew more and more ominous and finally the rain showed up.
The PGA of America finally called it a day just before 6 p.m. with a plan to resume play at 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
There’s only one problem with that.
The bad weather could possibly continue through the night and would turn Baltusrol into a quagmire.
Then there is the Sunday forecast and it isn’t that great. The forecast is for 80 percent chance of rain on Sunday then 80 percent Sunday night and 80 percent on Monday.
PGA of America — you’ve got a problem!
