On Sunday Jim Furyk became the first man ever to shoot 58 on the PGA Tour.
On Tuesday he was named the 2016 recipient of the Payne Stewart Award.
The award is given annually to that player who “best exemplifies Stewart’s values of character, charity and sportsmanship.”
Furyk is at the top of the class in all those qualities. At age 46, he has been one of the longest-running shows on the PGA Tour, one of the most consistent performers and one of the down-to-earth guys.
Furyk is also the only player who has shot both 59 and 58 in a tour event.
He will received the award on Sept. 20 in conjunction with the Tour Championship.
The award is given in honor of the late Payne Stewart, a three-time major champion who perished in 1999 when his private jet crashed.
