Jon Rahm is arguably better than at least half the field teeing it up Thursday in the Olympic Games.
That’s Spain’s loss. He’s the John Deere’s gain and his skills will be on display at this week’s PGA Tour stop — The John Deere, formerly the Tri-Cities Classic.
Rahm has a great shot of cracking the $1 million mark in tour earnings. May not sound like a big deal but he’s played in only SEVEN events and has cashed $915,235 to date. He’s well on his way to earning full playing privileges for the 2016-17 season. All he has to do is finish better than the 125th player on the money list and this week should easily clinch that.
The John Deere is known for investing in young players. They gave Jordan Spieth his opportunity and he responded with a win to clinch his tour card.
The big draws this week at the TPC Deere Run are Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson, two-long time veteran supporters of this event.
Johnson, with two major championships, is probably better than 90 percent of the players in this week’s Olympic competition, but that’s a debate for another day.
What matters is that the John Deere will probably draw more spectators on site than the Olympics.
Easily.
