Europe is in need of new, young potential Ryder Cuppers.
Tyrrell Hatton put his name in the hat on Sunday when he won the Dunhill Links Championship by a whopping four shots over a strong European Tour field.
Hatton, the 24-year-old Englishman, shot 23-under par on the event staged at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and two round on the Old Course at St. Andrews. Hatton shot 62-66 over the weekend to out-distance Richard Sterne of South Africa and England’s Ross Fisher, who tied at 19-under par.
“It feels amazing. I’ve wanted this moment since I was a six-year-old walking around Wentworth. It’s incredible,” Hatton said after picking up his first European Tour win.
Europe is in the market to replace worn-out war-horses like Lee Westwood, who had a post-Ryder Cup hangover. He opened with 75 at Carnoustie then shot 82 at Kingsbarns and saved face with 69 at St. Andrews but still miss the 54-hole cut by a bunch.
Andrew Johnston, fresh off earning a PGA Tour card, could only manage to shoot two-under par and finished tied for 63rd.
