Amy Yang upped her lead Friday at the Sime Darby while most of the American players tumbled back at the halfway mark of the LPGA’s Sime Darby championship.
Yang’s 69 got her to 10-under par after two trips around the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and she built a three-shot lead over three players.
Michelle Wie followed her opening 66 with a one-under par 70 that got her into a tie for fifth at six-under par. She’s only a shot out of second place that was shared by M.J. Hur, Candie Kung and Anna Nordqvist. Kung’s 65 was good for the day’s low round.
American Marina Alex, who opened with a 65, shot one-over par and found herself in a tie for 10th. Defending champion Jessica Korda improved with a 68 and was tied for 17th at three-under.
Lydia Ko moved up to 23rd as the world’s No. 1 shot 69 and was two-under, tied for 23rd, ahead of her rival, Ariya Jutanugarn who stumbled with a 75 and fell back into a tie for 43rd at two-over par.
