It’s called the Toto Classic but it has nothing to do with Dorothy’s little dog in the classic Wizard Of Oz movie.
Things are as tight as they can be for most of the 2016 honors on the LPGA Tour, especially Player Of The Year.
It has been Lydia Ko vs. Ariya Jutanugarn for most of the season and this week is no different.
There are only two events left after this week’s 54-hole event in Japan.
Jutanugarn got off to a very fast start Friday as she opened the first round with a six-under par 66 at the Taiheiyo Club’s Minori course. The young star from Thailand shared the first round lead with Soo-Yun Kang.
Ko, who has been in sort of a mini-slump, one that caused her to dump her long-time caddie, had her share of troubles and ended up with a two-over par 74 and found herself tied for 57th.
American Stacy Lewis came to life and her 67 put her a shot back of the co-leaders.
After this week, it’s on to Mexico and the Lorena Ochoa Invitational then in two weeks, it will all come to a grand finale at the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples.
