Lucas Glover has been a ghost on the PGA Tour.
He hasn’t won since the 2011 Wells Fargo and it’s been seven years since he made a name for himself by winning the U.S. Open.
Glover emerged from the shadows on Saturday in Las Vegas, shot 65 and is the 54-hole leader at the Shriners Hospitals for Children championship.
But it’s not like he has an overwhelming lead. Things are pretty jammed up at the TPC Summerlin and he will have a host of contenders chasing him on Sunday.
Glover’s six-under par effort got him at 15-under, just a stroke better than 36-hole leader Rod Pampling and Ryder Cupper Brooks Koepka.
Russell Henley and Geoff Ogilvy, another former U.S. Open champion are just two back on a course where one and two-shot leads are meaningless.
Glover wasn’t looking at the players after him, he was thinking about taking on the course over the final 18 holes. “I’m not out to prove I can beat anybody. I’m out to prove I can play the golf course and beat it.”
Last year Smylie Kaufman came from four shots back to win. Going into Sunday, there are 19 players within four of Glover.
