Jordan Spieth started his fantastic 2015 season with a victory in the Australian Open.
Spieth nabbed that title for the second time Sunday in a playoff at the Royal Sydney Golf Club.
Spieth birdied the first hole of the the playoff with Aussies Ashley Hall and Cameron Smith for the win.
“We love coming here. I had a chance last year on 18 and didn’t hit a great putt,” Spieth recalled. “This time I had that same chance with a very similar putt in the playoff and capitalized.”
Spieth started the final round two shots behind overnight leader Geoff Ogilvy but Ogilvy’s final round 73 left the door open for Spieth, Hall and Smith. Hall and Smith put together the day’s best rounds — six-under par 66s to get to 12-under with Spieth after he posted a 69.
Spieth made the turn two-under for the day but things took a bad turn for the American when he bogeyed 10 and 11 to fall back to even par for his round. He bounced back with birdies at 12, 13 and 16 to finish at 12-under.
Spieth next event will be in two weeks at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
