A report from Reuters out of the UK presents a scenario where Rory McIlroy could be showing up to defend his PGA title at Whistling Straits.
It is one of those “unconfirmed” variety type of deals. The report says he could show at Whistling Straits on Saturday.
Following that report, McIlroy’s publicist refuted the report and said McIlroy had made “no such plans.”
McIlroy already announced he would not play in this week’s WGC Bridgestone. If he goes to Whistling Straits, that still no guarantee he will play. If it was indeed a rupture of the anterior ligament of his left ankle, this would be a pretty speedy recovery.
Whistling Straits is not an easy course to walk and the first thing McIlroy will have to do is make it around that layout.
The other problem is trying to shake off the rust from sitting on the sidelines for so long.
Stay tuned.
