You look at the Honda Classic and there are more big names going home than there are in contention.
Yes, Rickie Fowler is doing his best to save the weekend for the event, he’s just a shot off the 36-hole lead. He’s eight-under and a shot behind uninspiring co-leaders Ryan Palmer and Wes Bryan.
Anirban Lahiri is two back at seven under but Palmer, Bryan and Lahiri won’t inspire many Palm Beachers to leave the land of pricey brunches and head out to PGA National.
Rickie’s a different story and he’s doing his best after a pair of 66s.
But the story this week is who DIDN’T make the cut.
Justin Thomas is the biggest name to go home early. It took even par to stick around and he was one over with rounds of 71-70.
One guy really lost his cool and that was Brooks Koepka. The big guy has been iffy with the driver this week and on the 11th tee Friday, he took the darn then and snapped the head off that TaylorMade — pop!!! He was in the midst of shooting a dreadful 78 and obviously Brooks was a little hot. Maybe he can cool off in the pool at Fowler’s palatial waterfront estate this weekend.
Ernie Els is fighting Father Time and he won’t have far to go to his home in the Bear’s Club after shooting 71-70.
Masters champ Danny Willett stayed in the flounder mode. Rounds of 69-72 sent him packing.
Same for European Ryder Cup star Thomas Pieters. He shot 72-70.
Keegan Bradley has been fighting hard to find his game but a pair of 73s sent him back to his nearby house on the Loxahatchee River.
Big names gone early, leaving the stage to Rickie and the rest.
