Put in simplest terms, the BMW Championship is Marc Leishman’s to win or lose on Sunday.
The birdie barrage came to a screaming halt on Saturday at Conway Farms. Leishman, who was 16-under through his first two rounds, was the only player in the top three to break 70 and as a result, he will take a five-shot lead into Sunday’s final 18.
Leishman’s 68 got him to 19-under, five better than Rickie Fowler (70) and Jason Day (70). Both of them are tied at 14-under and Fowler will play with Leishman in the final pairing on Sunday.
Leishman has only two PGA Tour wins and this would be his biggest should he close the deal on Sunday. He will have to deal with the painful memory of the final-nine 40 he shot two weeks ago on Sunday in Boston at The Dell.
Best rounds among the top 10 were a 66 by Justin Rose. He’s 12-under, a shot in front of Jon Rahm who shot 65.
The tournament within the tournament will be settled on Sunday as well as the bubble players scrap for a spot in the top 30 at East Lake next week for the Tour Championship.
