Paul Casey has just one PGA Tour victory on his resume.
Come Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, he could snare the tour’s biggest prize of all.
Casey put up a sizzling 65 on Saturday and now leads the Tour Championship by two shots. Casey’s been hanging around for the previous three playoff events, under the radar but now all eyes at East Lake are upon him.
The Englishman came into this finale in 10th place in the points standings. He could walk away with $11.5 million on Sunday.
First, he has to do what has been difficult for him in the past — not fade in the fourth round. He has a two-shot lead over Kevin Kisner and rookie Xander Schauffele. The player he might have to worry about most is Justin Thomas. Thomas came into the Tour Championship in second place and if he finishes third or better on Sunday, he wins the overall FedEx Cup, no matter what Casey does.
Jordan Spieth is the points leader but after a 69 on Saturday, he need to rally on Sunday. Spieth need to finish in a tie for fourth or higher to win the FedEx Cup.
Then there’s Jon Rahm. Fifth in points, Rahm has to finish no lower than second to win the FedEx Cup.
But first things first. It’s a matter of Casey performing over the final 18.
