Rejoice, shout it from the rafters, sing to the mountains — it’s yet another Tiger Woods comeback.
Hopeless romantics — here we go again.
All those Tiger Woods hopeless romantics, stuck in the year 2003-2004.
TaylorMade is filled with joy, finally, those clubs they designed for him, at least some of them, are in HIS golf bag. Yeah, the Monster Energy bag. Where was Monster Energy when Tiger was found asleep at the wheel in Jupiter last spring? Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Tiger was out in California this past week and made some swings, hanging out with Kevin Chappell at Monterey Peninsula Golf Club.
So yes, let all the “Comeback” talk begin.
Isn’t that the way it has been with Tiger Woods for what seems like the past four years. “Yeah man, he’s coming back, wouldn’t it be great to see Tiger back?”
Sure it would be great to see Tiger back. Ask any PGA Tour player and that will roll off their collective tongues quicker than they can say “more money please!”
No problem having Tiger back, no one’s afraid of that dude anymore.
Meanwhile back at TaylorMade, you might recall they were beside themselves with total giddiness at last January’s PGA Merchandise Show when they announced Sir Eldrick was now a member of the TaylorMade clan. If you stare long and hard at the picture above, you’ll see his prototype “TGR” irons, at least a few of them, mixed in his bag with that confusing looking new logo of his. There are still some old Nike wedges and other stuff.
The only problem is that Tiger Woods can’t sell golf clubs. Nike found that out after countless years of losses, small puddles of red ink in the world of Nike, finally even a giant will get tired of a small thorn in its toe and yank it out. No more Nike golf clubs, next sucker please and that would be the good folks at TaylorMade stroking checks to Eldrick to have their clubs in his bag while it was sitting somewhere inside his Jupiter Island mansion.
Finally, at least there is daylight shed on them.
Meanwhile, back to this comeback stuff.
Call us skeptical but it has to be a long-shot at best. Tiger’s had almost as many surgeries as he has major championships. It is not until December but Tiger hasn’t yet thrown his name into the participants roster for his little 16-man outing down there in the Bahamas on that course where even the 12-handicappers can break 80.
If we had to guess, here’s what is in the back of his mind — 2018 Masters. That’s more than five full months away, nearly a half-year. If he can’t make it by then, he may never play again. That sounds strange and a tad depressing, doesn’t it?
It sounds ominous because everyone wants to see him one more time.
So many years, so many moments for the highlight reels.
But that was then. This is now.

Sad, but afraid this is right on the money.

RM, tough to make a case where he actually becomes competitive again. Time has taken over and the young guys on tour, a bunch of ’em, are just too damn good. Even Rory is struggling to keep up with them.

Not cynical at all, it’s just another Tiger comeback attempt, hasn’t this record been played over and over? So I ask you rshmok, will Tiger Woods be content to be another guy out there with his name on his bag? We did not say anything about Tiger not being great for golf but at this point, he’s like a carnival sideshow…..let’s go see the man-eating Tiger in the cage that doesn’t have any teeth….

How can you say it is not cynical when you start with the phrase:
“Hopeless romantics, here we go again…”
… and end with that phrase… and use that phrase in the body of the article, as well as using the word “Comeback” in quotes?
You might have well have said; “Comeback… yeah, right… here we go again…”

There are those out there who refuse to grasp the concept that Tiger might not even be able to play again, much less be competitive, but yes, here we go again with yet another installment in the ongoing series: Comeback Of The Tiger….cynical, you haven’t seen cynical yet…

Sorry, way before my time……as you point out, Ben was in an accident, Tiger has brought a lot of his demise on himself…

This guy can hit all the balls he wants, however no one on tour is afraid of him any more. As a touring pro, he will never win another PGA tour event.

Hitting balls at moderate swing speed is one thing, trying to create the speed he needs to come anywhere close to where he used to be distance-wise is another and I think most feel as you do Jimmmy…..thanks for checking in!
