CareerBuilder: Thank Goodness For Jon Rahm !!

How about Hudson Swafford, Adam Hadwin or perhaps Bud Cauley?

Well, if those guys don’t excite you, there’s always Brian Harman or perhaps Dominic Bozzelli.

Can’t wait to see all of them, right?

Well go ahead and curb your enthusiasm for the CareerBuilder Challenge.

But wait!

Jon Rahm is there to save the day.

Just when you thought this week’s stop on the PGA Tour was totally devoid of big names, there’s the world’s No. 4 ready and willing to rescue you from golf apathy.

Sure, and there’s a blast from the past — the ever optimistic Phil Mickelson.  Mickelson will tell anyone who is willing to listen that he’ll end his winning drought this season and that once again he’ll be a stalwart on next fall’s U.S. Ryder Cup team when it ventures to France.

But first things first.

This CareerBuilder Challenge is the descendant of the old Bob Hope Classic.

The celebrity field was pretty good back then, Bob could bring ’em out of the woodwork, including former U.S. Presidents.

But these days it’s just a 54-hole corporate outing.  They get rid of the amateurs after the third round and let the professional contenders duke it out.

Last year it was Swafford getting his first PGA Tour victory with Hadwin finishing runnerup.

Harman tied Bud Cauley for third and Harman’s off to a pretty impressive start, getting beat by Dustin Johnson at the Tournament Of Champions then falling apart over the weekend at the Sony after holding the 54-hole lead.

This one’s played over three courses — the difficult TPC Stadium course at PGA West, the Nicklaus Tournament course and La Quinta.  The pros play the final round on TPC Stadium.

So keep an eye on Rahm.  He should do well, he’s the main thoroughbred among a bunch of field horses.
