Johnson got off to a good start Thursday with a five-under par 67 at Spyglass.

Johnson wasn’t the only star playing well. Rory McIlroy shot 68 at Spyglass, four-under. John Rahm was four-under at Monterey Peninsula while Jason Day finished with 69 at Spyglass.
Jordan Spieth’s slow start to 2018 continued. Thanks to just one birdie against one bogey, he shot even par 72 at Spyglass.
Kevin Streelman and Beau Hossler put up the opening day’s low rounds.
Streelman shot 65 at Spyglass — seven under while Hossler’s 75 came at Pebble Beach.
Gary Woodland, last week’s winner at Phoenix, shot 69 at Spyglass while the man he beat in Phoenix, Chez Reavie, birdied the first four holes at Pebble Beach and finished with 67.
Patrick Cantlay had the day’s best start — birdie, hole-in-one, birdie at Monterey. He shot 66.
