The points leader in the European Tour’s Race To Dubai and the man in the spotlight this week at the DP World Tour Championship is none other than (drum roll please) — sand swiping Patrick Reed.
There’s a strong field this week for the Tour’s finale and Reed has a chance to become the first American player to win the Race To Dubai. He’ll play in the final pairing Thursday with Tommy Fleetwood on the Earth course at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
Reed isn’t the only American star in the field. PGA champ Collin Morikawa, with that major win, is third on the points list behind Reed and Fleetwood and he’ll play alongside England’s Lee Westwood in the first round. With his back-to-back wins in South Africa, Christiaan Bezuidenhout jumped into the fifth position and he’ll be paired with Victor Perez of France.
Viktor Hovland has climbed to No. 15 in the world and he’s traveled to Dubai following his win last week in Mayakoba. Tyrrell Hatton ranks as one of the favorites this week — he’s 10th in the world and ninth in the Dubai points race.
This season-ending event features a 65-man field. The winner receives 2,000 Race To Dubai points, which will be a deciding factor as to who will become the European number one.
It’s also a big money purse with $3 million awaiting the champion on Sunday.
