After a Far East swing that went from Singapore to Thailand, the LPGA Tour returns to the United States this week for the Pure Silk at Kingsmill in Williamsburg where Ariya Jutanugarn has two of the last four events.
Jutanugarn warmed the hearts of her homeland two weeks ago when she won for the first time in Thailand at the LPGA Honda. She’s no stranger to Kingsmill where she hoisted the trophy in 2016 and 2018. The 2020 event was wiped out by the pandemic and England’s Bronte Law, the 2019 winner is technically the defending champion.
The American stars will be back in action, most of them skipped the long trip to Singapore and Thailand. Both the Korda — Nelly and Jessica — are playing as is the 2017 winner at Kingsmill, Lexi Thompson. Danielle Kang is expected back to go up against the world’s No. 1 Jin Young Ko.
This event will mark the return to the LPGA Tour for Paula Creamer, who has battled a wrist injury and has taken extensive time off from golf.
Vijay Singh WDs From PGA Championship:
Age is catching up with 58-year-old Vijay Singh. The winner of the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championship has withdrawn from this week’s 103rd PGA at Kiawah Island.
Singh last played in the 2018 PGA and finished 78th. He was replaced in the field by first alternate Wyndham Clark.
