The United States women were in big trouble after Saturday’s morning session at the Solheim Cup but as darkness once again put an end to the day’s play, they were trying to rally.
The Americans took an early beating in the alternate shot format to start the day with Europe winning three of the four matches. The worst U.S. moment came when Paula Creamer and Morgan Pressel blew a four-up lead and lost on the 18th green to Charley Hull and Suzann Pettersen when Pettersen holed a 10-footer for birdie.
In that match, Hull and Pettersen won the final four holes and Europe took an 8-4 lead.
But late in the day, the U.S. had one win in hand and led in two of the three remaining matches when darkness halted play with the outcome in doubt in all three of those matches.
Play will resume in the morning then the teams will go out after the four-ball in the singles matches. Europe needs only 14 points to retain the cup.
