Tiger Woods was heard from on social media this week as he went to his Twitter account to announce the return of his Hero World Challenge in December.
Last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic but the event is back at Albany in the Bahamas and will run from December 2-5.
Tiger also said that the 18-man field will expand to 20 players this year.
Here’s where it got a bit ridiculous.
Numerous sites came up with this: “Tiger didn’t say if he would be competing.”
Seriously?
Do they not understand that Tiger is recovering from a very, very serious injury, one that could have possibly ended his career. Taking his age into consideration, you can bet the advice Tiger is getting from his medical professionals is that he needs to take this recovery at a much slower pace. The last thing Woods needs is to rush back in attempt to prove he’s super-human or something akin to that.
Woods was injured in February and a really, really speedy recovery, conservatively, would be at least a year. So let the Masters 2021 speculation begin.
Best guess here is that Woods, if he can get his game to any sort of competitive level, might shoot for the 150th anniversary Open Championship at St. Andrews in 2021. That would make a lot of sense from a physical standpoint and would bring the 150th Open into really, really bright lights.
In the meantime, don’t count on Tiger being anything more than the on-sight host in December.

I’m still holding hope for Tiger playing the Masters. But wouldn’t put it past tiger to somehow get to slap and giggle with the boys in the Bahamas.

I don’t see it, too tough a walk, you saw what happened to Koepka trying to come back too soon there, suffered a setback.

You have a point there.
But your boo Koepkas attempt was probably even more futile; bordering on ridiculous. I’m sure tiger won’t show up doing one legged squats.

Again, take it from someone who has rehabbed: A right knee replacement, a left hip replacement and a right hip resurfacing….Tiger turns 46 in December — DO NOT RUSH HIS REHAB, we all want him to be competitive again!!!
