Tiger Woods is going to be an uncle.
Tiger’s niece, Cheyenne Woods, and her fiance — New York Yankees star center fielder Aaron Hicks, have announced they are expecting a baby boy.
Woods and Hicks met in 2020 when she interviewed him for her Birdies Not BS podcast. The two started dating that spring.
Woods has struggled to make it on the LPGA Tour. She’s bounced between the LPGA Tour and the Symetra Tour last season and has started trying out for roles as an analyst and on-course television reporter.
Perhaps her new full-time job will be “Mom.”
Mark Lye Booted Off Sirius Radio For Bad-Mouthing The WNBA:
First it was Hank Haney, now former PGA Tour player Mark Lye is the latest talk show guy to get the boot from Sirius radio.
While co-hosting Saturday’s episode of, “The Scorecard,” Lye said that he’d rather shoot himself than watch the WNBA. The remarks came as Lye was attempting to compliment how compelling the LPGA Tour has become in recent years.
Here’s the transcript of what got Lye canned:
“You know, the LPGA Tour to me is a completely different tour than it was 10 years ago, and I don’t know if you were working that tour that long ago, Craig, but you couldn’t pay me to watch. You really couldn’t. Because I just, I couldn’t relate at all. It’s kind of like, you know, if you’re a basketball player – and I’m not trashing anybody; please, don’t take it the wrong way – but I saw some highlights of ladies’ basketball. Man, is there a gun in the house? I’ll shoot myself than watch that. You know, I love watching the men’s basketball. I love watching the men’s golf. I never used to like watching ladies’ golf. But I will tell you this. I’ve been up close watching these ladies play because I used to have a big function every year called the Lucas Cup and I’d have LPGA players and PGA Tour players.”
Lye probably should have known better. If he wanted to make his point, all he had to do was refer to the ratings numbers for the WNBA.
Symetra Tour Rebranded As Epson Tour:
The LPGA Tour’s version of the Korn Ferry Tour has been the Symetra Tour.
It’s the Symetra Tour no more, there’s a new sponsor for the women’s feeder circuit — The Epson Tour.
The Epson Tour will have 21 tournaments this while with $4.41 million in prize money.
The upcoming Epson Tour season will begin March 4-6 with the Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Winter Haven. It will conclude Oct. 6-9 with the Epson Tour Championship in Daytona Beach, where once again the top 10 points earners will graduate to the LPGA Tour. This year, those 10 grads will also be offered $10,000 each to wear the Epson Tour logo on their sleeve as they begin their LPGA Tour careers.
Stacy Lewis Named U.S. Solheim Cup Captain:
Your next Solheim Cup captain is Stacy Lewis.
Lewis, who will be 38 when the matches are contested in Spain in two years, will be the youngest ever to lead the U.S. team.
Youngest captain for either side was Catrin Nilsmark, who was 36 when she led Team Europe in 2003.
“I obviously knew this was going to happen at some point in my career,” Lewis said. “Obviously earlier than I thought, but it’s OK. I feel like it’s the right time for Team USA, and it’s the right time for me to step in.”
Lewis has known the news for about a month but did a good job of keeping the secret.
