The field at the Tour Championship at East Lake is now down to 29.
Jim Furyk, who has been a iron man on the PGA Tour, will have to sit this one out thanks to a left wrist contusion that forced him to withdraw from the BMW Championship last week outside Chicago.
It was the first time in 20 PGA Tour seasons that Furyk was forced to withdraw from an event.
His main concern now is to hope that it heals in time to play on the Presidents Cup team in October.
The Presidents Cup will be contested Oct. 8-11 in South Korea which gives Furyk a short window to heal. If he can’t go, team captain Jay Haas will have to choose a replacement and the deadline to do that is Oct. 7.
Furyk will get some consolation as he’ll collect a check for $132,000 which represents the amount that would be earned by the player finishing 30th in Atlanta this week. He was 16th in the overall FedEx Cup standings and depending on where he finishes after the results from Sunday, he’ll still collect some nice bonus money from the overall FedEx Cup pool.
