The PGA Tour was all set to announce its 2018-2019 schedule this week.
There was a lot of anticipation as this is the schedule that moves the PGA Championship into May and The Players back to March.
There are other big changes coming as well.
So why the delay?
It appears that Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is doing his best to save the Houston Open.
The tour has basically delayed the schedule announcement until after the U.S. Open, giving Crane and the good folks in Houston a chance to find some company willing to fork up $12 million annually to save one of the tour’s longest-running and most iconic events.
The WGC Firestone has already been laid to rest. Houston was next in the obituary column.
Crane is hoping that they’ll come up with a sponsor by the end of June, which is going to make it a tough task considering it’s already May and no one has stepped up.
