Wondering out loud if Webb Simpson was on anyone’s radar coming into this year’s Players Championship?
Si Woo Kim was on no one’s last year.
But Simpson has been trending upward this season. He had three top five finishes with one as recent as the Heritage the week after The Masters.
He finished tied 21 at the Wells Fargo coming in.
One thing no one saw was Simpson shooting 19-under par for 54-holes. Never. Crazy stuff.
It is probably safe to say that you won’t see 19-under par for 54 holes when the event moves back to March for next year’s schedule.
That schedule will have a pretty good five-month run with The Players in March, The Masters in April, the PGA Championship in May, the U.S. Open in June and the Open Championship in July.
Wonder how the PGA will market itself now. It’s been “Glory’s Last Shot” forever, seeing as it was a player’s last chance at winning a major that season.
One thing’s for sure, if the wind get to blowing 20 miles per hour at The Stadium Course, things could get real interesting.

Apparently Brooks Koepka’s left wrist is quite all right.
There was concern that he re-injured it last Wednesday when someone in a golf cart drove in front of him on the range and he had to abruptly stop his swing.
Although he said his wrist was sore, it didn’t stop him from shooting 63 on Sunday.
The spectacular shot of his final round was the albatross two at the par five 16th.
Koepka had 208 yards in and hit six-iron for his second. It was perfect — one hop and in for two.
He birdied the 17th then lipped out a birdie effort from inside 13 feet at the final hole that would have given him a course record 62.
“I’ve been knocking on the door,” he said afterward. “Sometimes when you’re off for four months you come back and need to play a little bit and get some rhythm. It’s nice to finally shoot a low one.”
He’ll take this week off then head for The Colonial in two weeks.

Worst Sunday putter at The Players? Easily Jason Dufner. The Duf couldn’t miss ’em fast enough down the stretch and ended up tied for fifth alongside Jason Day. Truth be known, Dufner could have easily finished solo second and that would have paid him $1,180,000. Instead, those misses stuck him with a check for $418,333. Now you know why they say you “putt for dough.”

Worst single-hole performance on Sunday goes to Jordan Spieth. Spieth, playing alongside Tiger Woods, hit an incredibly horrible tee shot at the 18th. It wasn’t a matter of it going into the water, rather, how close it would get to the middle of the lake. The hacking continued and to top it all off, Jordy three-putted from just three feet! Seriously? Three-putts from three feet? He made a quadruple-bogey eight on that hole. As it was, it was a $100,000 three-putt. Spieth has issues.

Under the “no one noticed” file was that there was a secondary cut after 54 holes on Sunday at The Players. Among those who didn’t make it to Sunday was Lucas Glover. After 68-71, a pretty good 36-hole effort, he blew up on Saturday with a 78 and that meant he would earn a paltry$21,340.
Apparently that didn’t set too well with his wife.
Evidently later that Saturday, Krista Glover went all Jackie Chan on Lucas’ mother, Hershey Hendley. The local gendarmes were called to the scene and Krista Glover was hauled off to the St. John’s County hoosegow. Apparently Lucas was okay with the Mrs. spending the night in the clink because she bailed out Sunday morning.
Glover, a former U.S. Open champion, took to Twitter with this gem:
“My wife and mother [Hershey Hendley] were involved in an argument to which the police were called. Everyone is fine. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter. We thank you for respecting our privacy as we work through this unfortunate situation.”
When the cops showed up Lucas told them Krista began berating him for playing poorly at The Players. Glover also told them Krista had been drinking throughout the day.
The cops cuffed Krista and per the report she got a bit belligerent in the back of the squad car.
Not sure how all this will play out and Glover’s statement creates a lot of ambiguity in this incident.
Whatever the outcome, Mrs. Glover was none too happy about Mr. Glover’s third round 78.
