Seve Ballesteros grew up in a small fishing village — Pedrena. It sat on the southern shore of the Bay of Santander in northern Spain.
Seve learned the game starting out with only a three-iron — one given to him by older brother Manuel. Seve spent time on the local beach, he learned to play a variety of shots using that three-iron and when he was well into his professional career, once demonstrated that he could hit a greenside bunker shot with that three-iron — try that sometime!

It is amazing how many high handicappers have trouble in the sand. We know one fellow golfer who uses his putter — that’s pretty drastic, but at times, it works, at times, it doesn’t.
We’re all better off spending a few minutes today with Seve. These videos bring him back to us — we lost him too early — he was such a treasure in the world of golf and was considered a national hero/treasure in Spain.
In short, he was an icon of the game.
