Election results are in and Aussie Adam Scott is the newly-elected Chairman of the 16-member Player Advisory Council for the PGA Tour.
Scott, who is entering his 22nd season on the PGA Tour, will join the policy board for a three-year term starting in 2024.
“We have the ability to put the people in [charge at the Tour] who should be able to do the job. I think it’s getting to the point in our game where it’s getting maybe easy to see that there needs to be some accountability for all of this stuff all of a sudden across the game of golf,” Scott said last month at the Sony Open in Hawaii. “I think over my career there has probably been less of that because there hasn’t been a consequence for error, is the feeling as a player looking at the ecosystem of the game.”
Scott will join Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy and Webb Simpson next year on the policy board. A fifth player will also be appointed to replace Patrick Cantlay on the board by the current player directors.
New Zealand Cyclone Delays Caddie Steve Williams:
Notorious/famous caddie Steve Williams is supposed to be on Adam Scott’s bag this week but a cyclone that hit New Zealand forced Scott to find a back-up for the Wednesday pro-am at the Genesis Invitational.
Government officials in New Zealand declared a state of emergency after Cyclone Gabrielle battered the country’s North Island in what has been described as the nation’s most severe weather event in years. Almost 600 flights were disrupted, including the one Williams had intended board earlier this week for the 6,500-mile journey to Los Angeles.
Williams, who is sharing caddie duties for Scott this year with Greg Hearmon, is currently scheduled for a flight that’s expected to arrive on Wednesday afternoon. Scott’s tee time for Thursday’s first round is 7:35 a.m. local time.
“Hopefully Steve gets here,” Scott said on Tuesday, acknowledging he has begun to consider a backup caddie for the tournament should Williams encounter further delays. “These are extraordinary circumstances.”
