Thank-you for bringing back its splendor, thank-you for restoring it again after those dreadful floods in 2016.
And thank-you most of all for honoring our United States Military men and women on America’s most important holiday — July 4th.
There is no fancy corporate name on this week’s PGA Tour event. That’s a good thing, the PGA Tour has sold its soul time and again in its greedy pursuit of money.
No, Jim Justice spent more money than we can ever imagine. First, he brought this National Historical Landmark back to life, then gave it needed CPR after those 2016 floods.
A Military Tribute At The Greenbrier — that sounds really, really good doesn’t it?
Fact is we can’t honor our Armed Forces enough. Every day isn’t often enough when we consider the price they are prepared to pay. Every man and woman serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard is prepared to write a check, payable to the United States Government for an amount up to and including their lives.
It is a fitting place for such a tribute.
The Greenbrier served as a military hospital during World War II — it was home to nearly 25,000 patients over that time in our history.
During the Cold War days, a massive underground complex was constructed as a shelter for the Congress of the United States in case of an atomic war.
These days it is a splendid five-star resort with incredible amenities.
It has also become a vacation spot for the well-to-do. Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Nick Faldo have vacation homes on the property.
Bubba and Phil are competing this week — but who cares?
This is The Military Tribute.
Great name for an event.
Long overdue.
