Yeah, Lefty’s in town, surrounded by his perfect homes away from home, the thousands of betting storefronts scattered all over the United Kingdom.
Did Lefty bet a bundle on France in the World Cup?
Truth be known, after shooting a very uninspiring even par 70 on Thursday that left him in a tie for 97th at the 2018 Scottish Open, Lefty faced the music.
“Throughout my career, 25 years, there have been a lot of times where I have had to be accountable for decisions I did not make,” Mickelson told all those gathered reporters at Gullane. “And the reason why this has actually been easier, it was my own fault. Like this was my own fault. So the articles and the backlash is my own fault,” he said of the controversies arising from his rules violations at the U.S. Open and Greenbrier.”
Before he arrived in Gullane, Lefty played Monday outside Paris at Le Golf National, the Ryder Cup site then on Tuesday he jetted back to play at Carnoustie. He predicted Carnoustie will be “one of the best Opens.”
Then came the inevitable questions about his reported $10 million winner-take-all match against Tiger Woods.
“Hopefully in the next week or two,” Mickelson said. “I think we’re close to having some stuff finalized.”
After that even par round on Thursday, Lefty will have to go low on Friday to make it to the weekend.
Otherwise, he’ll have more time to spend at Carnoustie and with all the tabloid reporters.
