Too many people are going nuts over how far Rory McIlroy drives the golf ball.
He hit at least two past the 400-yard mark at Firestone.
Sorry Rory, you were not the Master-Blaster at the PGA Championship.
They put out the standings — most drives that went 320 yards or longer.
Your No. 1 smasher was Brooks Koepka. He launched 26 at or past that 320 mark and a heckuva a lot of them were in the fairway. Brooks hit the high, power-fade. We remember a guy back in the 60s, 70s and 80s who hit the power fade and won 18 majors in the process.
As for McIlroy, he had 25 but too many were crooked.
Proof was in the final scores: Brooks won the title at 16-under, Rory finished tied for 50th at two-under.
Ryan Fox and Jon Rahm tied for third with 17 each while Dustin Johnson hit 16 bombs.
Koepka has it all over Rory with the short game as well. Koepka is dialed in with his wedges and putter while McIlroy has a hard time getting his wedges inside 20 feet and his putting? Well, if you watch him, that speaks for itself.
Bad news for everyone else is that Koepka is just starting to get the hang of this major championship stuff.
His upside is crazy.
