Hmmmmm, seems someone got pretty irate at the Southern Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass.
First, Southern Marsh sounds like it belongs somewhere in South Carolina rather than Massachusetts. But that’s beside the point.
Seems a couple of guys got into a fight there, not sure if over-consumption of alcohol might possibly be involved. But what transpired on a Friday evening (yeah, we’re betting on alcohol), was something totally bizarre.
Seems one of the combatants bit off the other guy’s finger.
OUCH!
The loser and his finger were transported to the emergency room while the biter was arrested and charged with “mayhem.” Mayhem? There’s got to be better charge when you bite someone’s finger off at the knuckle. At any rate, said biter is hereby sentenced to the basement of the Dog House for a to-be-determined amount of time and shall be forced to wear a muzzle.
No biting in the Dog House. No fighting either.
Shame On Kevin Stadler:
Holy crap!
Seems the Son Of The Walrus is in hot water.
The younger Stads, who has been sentenced to the Web.com Tour for a while, hit an errant shot on the par three 15th at the Portland Open then proceeded to smash his club into the ground.
Former PGA champ Shaun McKeel wrote this account on his Facebook page:
“One of my playing partners played a poor shot with a 7 iron on the par 3 fifteenth hole this morning. In a fit of anger he slammed his club against the ground and the side of his foot which caused the club to break about 6” from the bottom. I had my head down but the clubhead flew behind me and hit a spectator to my right. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so much blood. We stayed with him for about 15 minutes before the EMT’s arrived. The last I heard was that he had a possible skull fracture but that he was doing ok otherwise. [Stadler] was absolutely shattered and we did our best to keep his spirits up. This was not done on purpose and we were astounded at the way the club was directed but it shows you just how dangerous it is to throw or break clubs. Each of us in the group learned something today!”
Not sure what to make of this, not sure what the tour’s liability might be, if any, typically on sporting event tickets there are all manners of disclaimers. Still, this is simply not acceptable professional behavior.
Little Stads, you’re really in the Dog House, not only ours but not doubt the tour won’t let this be over-looked.
If we were the injured fan, we’d be contacting the local personal injury barrister and have him in touch with Tour Headquarters.
Another Lexi Thompson Penalty:
Okay, it’s time for Lexi Thompson’s caddie to start studying and learning the rules of golf because it’s totally evident Lexi cannot.
Heavy rains led to the old “Life-Clean-And-Place” policy at the LPGA stop in Indy this past week.
At all events, they hand out a sheet of local rules and any special rules that may be in effect that week. On that sheet, handed out to the players, Lexi included, was the “lift-clean-and-place” in your own fairway. On Saturday, Lexi missed her tee shot at the 10th hole so badly it landed in an adjacent fairway. So what does Lexi do? She marked, picked up her ball and handed it to her caddie to clean. Fortunately a rules official saw the violation and immediately took action, otherwise it could have been substantially worse than the one-shot Lexi was hit with. Despite the penalty, she still made par on the par five and finished the third round with a 64 to put herself squarely in contention. On Sunday, however, all she could manage was an uninspired 71 that dropped her from fourth to a tie for 12th.
Lexi’s caddie needs to burn the midnight oil with the rules book and needs to scour the local handouts from now on or he’ll end up with a stay in the Dog House.
