So you’re unlucky No. 126 on the FedEx Cup points list.
What do you do now?
If you’re Martin Piller, your LPGA star wife Gerina may tell you to play harder. And it’s time for Martin and the rest of the FedEx points outsiders to do just that.
They are not left out in the cold.
Piller and the rest of the outsiders can now go to the Web.com playoffs.
The Web.com Tour handed out 25 PGA Tour cards last week and class valedictorian was South Korea’s Sungjae Im, who basically led the Web.com money list all year and finished first, notching a pair of wins on his way to the big tour. Now there will be 25 more cards at stake over the next four events.
First event is the Nationwide Children’s Hospital championship in Jack Nicklaus’ hometown of Columbus. They play at the Scarlet course at Ohio State University, a nationally-ranked track.
Second event goes to Cleveland at Canterbury Golf Club, another renown layout.
Third stop is in Boise with the finals in Atlantic Beach.
What you have is redemption time for the guys who didn’t play so hot this past season. The 25 who already have their cards will play as they try and improve their position.
The 50 new cardholders get into tournaments as spots are available. Your top 10 can pretty much count on playing in as many events as they can. There are also “reshuffles” during the season, based on performance from those 50.
So call it whatever you want, this is what we have now in place of the old drudgery known as the Tour School.
