The news from Prague is that John Daly not only made a cut at the Czech Masters, he beat a Koepka.
No, not that Koepka, not Brooks, the second-ranked player in the world — Big John took down little brother Chase.
It wasn’t anything to write home about, however.
Daly shot rounds of 64-75-70-74 and after sharing the first round lead, he finished his week five-under and tied for 59th. He was a shot better than Chase, who started well enough with rounds of 67-69 but flopped over the weekend, shooting 75-73 and finished at four-under par, tied for 61st with Lee Westwood. For his work, Chase pocketed a stunning 2,650 Euros. It was his first cut made this season and he stands at No. 205 in the Race To Dubai and looks to be headed back to the Sunshine Tour, the European version of the Web.com over here.
Chase is ranked 456 in the world, 454 spots behind his older brother.
Meanwhile, Paddy Harrington’s attempt to enter into the European Ryder Cup discussion didn’t quite pan out on Sunday. Paddy entered the final round tied for the lead with Italy’s Andrea Pavin. Harrington actually built up a three-shot lead over Pavin at the turn but could do not better than even par over the final nine hole at the Albatross Golf Club. Pavin, who shot even on the front, rallied with five back nine birdies to get his first European Tour victory.
Pavin shot 22-under, two better than Harrington, closing with 67 to Harrington’s 69.
Oh Canada! Brooke Henderson Wins For Her Country
Brooke Henderson is quickly becoming a national hero in Canada and a rising superstar on the LPGA Tour.
Henderson won the CP Women’s Open, basically the women’s version of the Canadian Open, with a dazzling 65 on Sunday at the Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan.
She shot an impressive 21-under par and beat American Angel Yin by four while another American, Jennifer Song, took solo third.
“It’s amazing,” Henderson said afterward with the gathered crowds cheering wildly. “It’s just surreal. The crowds have been amazing all week. It’s a dream come true.” Then, remembering her grandfathers, who she lost earlier this year, Brooke let the tears flow and added: “To get this for my family is really special.”
